So we are all told that Parabens are bad for our health & skin but what actually are they?
Parabens are a type of preservative, they are used to prolong shelf life in many health and Beaty products by preventing the growth of mold and bacteria within them. That means products can survive for months in your cabinet, however when you use them it enters your skin.
Parabens are believed to disrupt hormone function by mimicking oestrogen. Too much oestrogen can trigger an increase in breast cell division and growth of tumours, which is why Parabens has been linked to breast cancer and reproductive issues.
Do you know where to look to see if the products you use have Parabens in them? Let's get to it!
Im going to start by naming the TOP 3 most popular that are usually found immediately but I listed the rest just in case.
Butylparaben
Methylparaben
Ethylparaben
Propylparaben
Heptylparaben
Isobutylparaben
Isopropylparaben
Benzylparaben
You should be able see a complete list of ingredients on the back of any product. If you don't see an ingredient list available, I would go an extra step and look on the website.
Now I will go a step further to say that the amount of Parabens in products is generally very small but if you can use something that's paraben free why not?
Im not a doctor but I am a licensed skin care specialist and have been researching ingredients for as long as I can remember. I think that it's important to know what you're using.
